Many of us will probably get sick this winter. It’s kind of inevitable since we’re exposed to so many germs every winter. But if you want to stave off illness .. try the keto diet. According to a new study out of Yale, the keto diet can help you fight off the flu.
The keto diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet that is similar to the Atkins and other low-carb diets. It involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis.
The researchers found that when you’re in a state of ketosis it activates a group of cells in your lungs and those cells do a great job trapping the flu virus and fighting it. Hmm …. more protein and fat? Fewer carbs (sugar, bread, wine, etc.)?
I don’t know. That seems pretty drastic. I might just take the chance at getting stick. 🙂 If you want more info, though, on how this might help you fight the flu, here’s the article and study which is published in the scientific journal Science Immunology.
