PEORIA, Ill. – A little more relief is coming to your wallet this week at the gas pump.
Gas prices in Peoria have dropped another 13 and a half cents over the past week, putting the average price at about $4.24 a gallon. That’s over 60 cents lower than a month ago. AAA Illinois’ price is a few cents higher at $4.28.
There’s still a significant gap between the cheapest and most expensive gas locally—over a dollar difference. If you’re paying nearly $5 a gallon, you’re missing out on some much better prices nearby.
Even with the drop, we’re still seeing prices nearly a dollar higher than this time last year.
National gas prices are averaging between $3.85 and $3.92, according to GasBuddy and AAA.
GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan is watching global tensions involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. While that hasn’t spiked prices yet, any trouble overseas could change things at the pump pretty quickly.
For now, enjoy the break in price, but keep an eye on where you’re filling up.
