PEORIA, Ill. – A 16-year-old was arrested after Peoria Police say officers found a stolen handgun on him before he ran from police Saturday evening.
Police say officers encountered a group of juveniles near Indiana and Nebraska avenues around 5:40 p.m.
Officers determined one of the juveniles, a 16-year-old boy, was wanted in connection with an unrelated aggravated battery case. Police say a search of the teen turned up a handgun that had been reported stolen.
According to police, the teen ran as officers attempted to arrest him but was caught following a short foot chase.
The 16-year-old was arrested on charges including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, resisting police and not having a FOID card. He also faces the aggravated battery charge from the unrelated case.
The teen was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
