PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – A woman behind the wheel of a car that drove through a Peoria tobacco store’s front window said she tried to prevent the crash.
The driver, who is an amputee, told 25News she was in the parking lot when her prosthetic leg became stuck under the brake pedal of her SUV. She said she tried to free it, but it was too late.
The driver said she smashed through the front window of JB Hawks Discount Tobacco and Vape, located on North University Street in Peoria.
Everyone in the store told 25News they were not hurt.
The driver said this is not the first time her foot became stuck while driving.
Mark, the store manager’s husband, said the situation could have been worse.
“I was supposed to be helping my wife take down signs and chains off the front window, and I was on my way here when she called me and told me what had happened,” Mark said. “I was supposed to be right there where the lady entered the window. I’m glad I wasn’t there, and I’m glad nobody got hurt.”
