PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – Route 29 was shut down in Peoria County Saturday afternoon, after two vehicles crashed near Lorentz Avenue.
The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office says 46-year-old Jessica Schaffer stole a car that was running in the Fast Break parking lot, only to crash it on the railroad tracks nearby. Then, she stole a second vehicle from someone who stopped to help her—and crashed that vehicle as well on the tracks, just 50 feet away.
Illinois State Police said two people were taken to the hospital with injuries, and traffic through the narrows was closed for three hours while crews cleaned up the wreckage.
Schaffer is now facing multiple charges, including battery and motor vehicle theft.
PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – Illinois State Troopers were on the scene of a crash late Saturday afternoon on Rt. 29, just north of Lorentz Avenue in Peoria County.
The crash involving two vehicles happened around 4:45 p.m., sending two people to the hospital with injuries.
ISP said Rt. 29 was shut down in both directions for about three hours. No additional information was released.
