PEORIA, Ill. – A new place for Peoria County residents to take their trash is now open.
The first day of operations for the Peoria Transfer Station is Monday. It’s open Monday-Friday from 7:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M., and Saturdays from 7:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
The Transfer Station is needed after the Peoria City/County Landfill #2 closed last year. It will serve for the next ten years until Landfill #3 opens.
Residents are able to take one load per week of residential trash for free. The county defines that as couches, sofas, chairs, mattresses, and desks. Recyclable materials will also be accepted as the transfer station.
The county says items such as structural materials, building materials, construction and demolition debris, siding, roofing materials, and windows are not accepted.
Other items banned due to Illinois EPA regulations include batteries such as lead-acid and lithium ion, mercury-containing products, appliances, electronics, motor oil, oil-based paints, tires, medical waste, yard waste.
