PEORIA, Ill. – Get ready for a higher power bill this summer. Peoria City and County officials say electricity rates are rising across the board.
Ameren customers will see the biggest increase, with rates jumping from 11.2 cents up to 13 cents per kilowatt-hour.
If you are enrolled in the community aggregation program, your rate is also going up—from 9.3 cents to 10.7 cents—but you’ll likely pay less than Ameren customers.
The reason for the spike? Officials say there’s less surplus electricity available, making it more expensive to ensure enough power for peak demand times.
Ameren suggests several ways to prepare for the increase—you can apply for financial help or payment programs at AmerenIllinois.com/options, and get energy-saving ideas online at AmerenIllinoisSavings.com.
