WASHINGTON, Ill. – Washington Fire Chief Tyler Gee has received the Firefighter Excellence Award for his bravery in saving a woman from her burning home last year.
The incident began when Gee arrived at the structure fire and heard a woman yelling for help from the second floor of the home.
With no available ladder, Gee quickly climbed up a shed, reached the woman, and pulled her out of the window as the shed collapsed beneath them.
Once on the ground, Chief Gee forced the shed’s door open, allowing them to escape.
Chief Gee was presented with the award on Wednesday, May 13 at the 33rd Annual Illinois Fallen Firefighter Memorial and Medal of Honor Ceremony in Springfield.
