EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A championship for the Peoria Rivermen will have to wait at least one more night.
The Rivermen fell Wednesday night to the Evansville Thunderbolts, 2-1, in Game 3 of the SPHL President’s Cup Finals.
Peoria still leads the best-of-five series, 2 games to one.
Mike Gelatt scored the only goal for Peoria early in the 3rd period. Evansville’s two goals late in the second period by Anthony Mollica and Evan Miller were enough to take the victory.
There will not be much rest for the two teams, with Game 4 taking place Thursday night in Evansville. A Rivermen win gives them their 3rd President’s Cup, while a Thunderbolts victory would send the series back to Peoria for a winner-take-all Game 5 Saturday night.
