BRIMFIELD, Ill. – A teenager has been arrested by Peoria County Sheriff’s deputies on animal cruelty charges in connection to the death of a cat on a county road.
Sheriff Chris Watkins says Peoria County Animal Protective Services made his office aware Tuesday of a deceased cat at the intersection on U.S. Route 150 and Illinois 78.
He says deputies were made aware of a 16-year-old male who, on Monday night, allegedly made a Snapchat video of himself throwing the same cat out of the window of a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.
Witnesses reportedly told police the cat originally belonged to someone who moved out of the country and was given to the 16-year-old through a mutual friend to “get rid of.”
Peoria County detectives interviewed the 16-year-old Wednesday, who reportedly confessed to throwing the cat out of the vehicle.
He was arrested on charges of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and Depiction of Animal Cruelty, then booked in the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
