PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – For florists, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day are their two busiest days of the year.
Prospect Florist in Peoria Heights was buzzing on Thursday, as arrangers pulled together hundreds of bouquets for Valentine’s Day, even for those who’ve forgotten to order flowers for their loved ones.
The shop’s owner Jeff Feldman says they’ve brought in a couple thousands of roses and other popular blooms for the holiday of love. Red roses are always a hit, but pink and white roses are equally as popular.
Preparations for Valentine’s Day began weeks ago. But, this week is go time.
“It really starts coming on strong two or three days before. The day before Valentine’s Day is probably our busiest day,” Feldman says.
Prospect Florist has about 10-12 extra workers in the shop this week answering phones, taking orders and making up arrangements. They’ll also have a crew of about a dozen drivers making deliveries on Valentine’s Day on Wednesday.
If you’ve forgotten about your valentine, Feldman says there’s still time to come out smelling like a rose.
“The day of Valentine’s Day, we usually try to be pretty good with walk-ins…people coming in trying to grab flowers and taking them with them. We try to accommodate those last-minute people,” Feldman says.
Ready-made arrangements will be in the coolers on Wednesday, Feldman says, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Prospect Florist is a family-owned business that’s been around since 1981 at 3319 N. Prospect Road in Peoria Heights.
