Which Is It? Up or Down?

I have no idea.

When we run the furnace in the winter, it’s easy.  When someone wants it warmer, you turn the heat “up” – which means both temperature and/or heat.

But it’s not so clear when you’re running the air conditioner.

If someone says “Turn the air up”, do they mean it’s cold and want the temperature up, or is it not cold enough and they want the temperature set lower?

At this point I don’t really care…I just want someone to decide.
