Peoria Accident Leaves Two Dead

At approximately 4:12 a.m. Sunday,  the Peoria Police Department responded to Sheridan and Eleanor regarding an accident with injuries.

When officers arrived, they discovered a single vehicle accident involving 3 occupants.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says the unrestrained driver, 29-year-old Cordero Henderson, of Peoria, was pronounced  dead at the scene, at 6:44 a.m. Autopsy and toxicology testing on Henderson is planned for Monday.

The front seat passenger, 25-year-old Jeremy Burnside, of Peoria, was pronounced dead at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in the Intensive Care Unit, at 9:18 a.m., despite aggressive resuscitative efforts. He suffered multiple traumatic blunt force internal injuries. Burnside was unrestrained, and required extrication from the vehicle. Toxicology on Burnside is pending.

No information on a reported third person in the vehicle was available.

Peoria Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said police believe the vehicle was traveling northbound on Sheridan when it struck a utility pole, causing the pole to shear. The vehicle fishtailed and came to a stop in a resident’s yard.

Speed is believed to be a factor, the investigation is still on-going.
