John: You…Are There!

With all of our screens and 24 hour news coverage we all feel like we’re constantly witnessing history.  When we actually do witness it, however, it’s different.  I was taken by the crowds of people in Paris singing and falling to their knees while watching the fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral.  You’re probably not singing watching it on YouTube.   Witnessing history live is cool.  I’ve watched it happen a few times.  I was at Disco Demolition at Comiskey Park in 1979, the solar eclipse in Carbondale and in Springfield when President Obama announced his candidacy for president.  I can recall them all vividly without needing to go to  the replay.

There’s nothing like being there in the moment…
