PEORIA, Ill. (25News Now) – The attorney for the suspect in a Peoria County double homicide provided a medical update about his client, who remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
Jeremiah Duncan, 24, is charged with first-degree murder for the death of Heaven Wood, 20, who was shot during the early morning hours of Sept. 25 in Royal Oaks Estates, north of Peoria.
Her two-year-old son, KJ Duncan Wood, died nearby after suffering smoke inhalation from a car fire. No formal charges have been filed in connection with the toddler’s death. Duncan is said to be the boy’s father.
Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins said Duncan suffered severe burns in what authorities said was domestic violence, and he is being treated at an undisclosed hospital.
Duncan’s lawyer told the judge Monday that he visited Duncan, saying he was sedated and scheduled to undergo surgery.
Prosecutors did not object to the defense attorney’s request to continue delaying the legal process while Duncan is medically incapacitated.
Another hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15.
