PEORIA, Ill. – As Central Illinois endures extreme heat this week, cooling centers are available to those trying to get out of the heat.
The Peoria Police Department lobby is open to the public on SW Adams Street, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Peoria fire stations are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. each day. Anyone using a fire station as a cooling center may be asked to step out if firefighters are called away.
The Peoria Public Library also offers shelter from the heat at five locations across the city.
