PEORIA, Ill. – It’s getting more expensive to fill the car up in the Peoria-area.
GasBuddy reports the average price for a gallon of unleaded on Monday was $4.35/g, up 13.6 cents in the past week. AAA is reporting a $4.33/g in the Peoria-Pekin metro area, up 10 cents in the past week.
GasBuddy’s average is 38.2 cents higher than one month ago, and $1.04/g higher than one year ago.
The cheapest price reported by GasBuddy in the Peoria-area on Sunday was $4.09/g, with the most expensive at $4.69/g.
GasBuddy reports the state average at $4.32/g, up 9.3 cents in the past week.
Analysts believe geopolitical tensions are causing a wild ride on the oil markets.
“Average gasoline prices were a mixed bag across the country last week as oil markets went on a wild ride, surging on geopolitical tensions before pulling back Sunday night after President Trump signaled a potential deal may be in the works,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “However, even as oil prices ease on deal optimism, continued Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil infrastructure are driving refined product prices higher as output plummets, keeping upward pressure on what Americans pay at the pump.”
