PEORIA, Ill. – A third teenager has now been charged as an adult in a carjacking case in North Peoria this past December.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 16-year-old Equon Logan has been charged with Attempt Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, Attempt Vehicular Hijacking, and Vehicular Hijacking.
Logan was ordered held in the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center until trial at a hearing on Thursday. Prosecutors say the judge ruled in favor of detaining because of factors such as Logan’s age, the seriousness of the crime, prior criminal history, and threat to public safety.
The incident occurred on December 6th, which started with a stolen pick-up truck found near the CEFCU bank on Knoxville, and five teenagers fleeing after OnStar was used to stop the truck.
Prosecutors allege that after the truck stopped, Logan was one of three teenagers who ran into the bank parking lot and attempted to pull the driver out of a Hyundai Genesis parked at an ATM. The vehicle ended up crashing into a concrete lamppost.
Logan then allegedly went to a nearby restaurant and pulled out the driver of a Nissan Altima and drove away with it. The vehicle was found the same day, with Logan arrested ten days after the incident.
The other two teenagers reportedly with Logan, Jaiden Dillard and Rodkell Grayer, have also had their cases transferred to adult court. Both of their cases are still pending.
