WASHINGTON, Ill. – Washington residents will get a say in what the next few years of the city will look like.
City leaders are starting the process to create a new strategic plan for the next 3-5 years. The first steps will be Tuesday and Wednesday at Five Points at 6:00 P.M., with open forum sessions.
City Administrator Jeff Fiegenschuh says upon his arrival to Washington, there were some goals set already. But he says including the public is important to the process because it’s their community.
“We want to make sure as we move Washington forward that residents have an opportunity to shape that process,” Fiegenschuh said.
The process also includes two focus groups that will meet prior to the forums. The focus groups will include a cross-section of community leaders that include educators, businessmen, non-profits, and students.
Fiegenschuh says he’s looking for people to have an open mind at the forums. He says that includes a willingness to talk and listen, and give input. Fiegenschuh says it creates a safe environment for people to feel their opinions are valued.
The information gathered at the sessions and focus groups will be put together and put together for a planning session with the mayor and city council. Fiegenschuh anticipates the process will be completed sometime by the late fall.
