PEORIA, Ill. – Residents of a Peoria apartment complex were alerted to a hazmat situation Friday morning.
Peoria Fire Chief Shawn Sollberger says someone in the complex mixed chlorine and muriatic acid into a 20 gallon container. The man went to the hospital with a burning sensation in his lungs.
Sollberger says firefighters and the hazmat team overpacked the area and tested the air quality with one entry team.
The fire department is ventilating the affected area, and will retest the air quality again.
