WOODFORD COUNTY, Ill. – A fugitive from North Carolina is in custody after a pursuit with police ended with him crashing his vehicle into a body of water in Woodford County.
The Woodford County Sheriff’s Office received information from U.S. Marshals on Wednesday evening about 31-year-old Dylan Solloway, who was believed to be living in a camper in the county.
Woodford County Chief Deputy Dennis Tipsword said Solloway was wanted in North Carolina for felony domestic violence protective order violations and harassing phone calls.
Deputies said Solloway was staying at the MillPoint RV Park in East Peoria. When they tried to make a traffic stop, Solloway drove off, leading to a short pursuit that ended when he crashed his truck into a body of water near the Illinois River. He got out of the truck and ran into the river.
Rescue and arrest efforts involved the Spring Bay Fire/Rescue boat and a boat provided by a local resident. Solloway was eventually taken into custody and transferred to a hospital for medical attention for injuries and exposure to the cold water.
Solloway is currently in stable condition. Once released from the hospital, he will be taken to the Woodford County Jail on charges of aggravated fleeing, eluding police, and resisting arrest, while he awaits extradition to North Carolina.
