PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria’s Great Neighbor Appreciation Week is back for a tenth year.
On Saturday, neighbors, local organizations and businesses will take part in the City-Wide Cleanup from 9-11 a.m. in all five districts of Peoria.
Non-profit organizations will be recognized on Monday. Then Tuesday is Code Encouragement Day.
The City’s Stacy Peterson tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” what that means.
“Code enforcement will actually go out and put hang tags on door handles of homes where neighbors are doing a great job. Maybe that’s great landscaping or they’re keeping up with their lawn,” Peterson says.
Wednesday is Local Business Appreciation Day. Then Thursday, Peoria hosts its first Great Neighbor Appreciation Cookout outside City Hall.
“It is all free…it’s from 5-7. So, if you work downtown there’s no excuse…you don’t need to get in your car, just walk down to City Hall. And, if you don’t work downtown, it’s really easy to get downtown…and we’ve got ample parking,” Peterson says.
Great Neighbor Appreciation Week ends next Friday (July 18) with #Great Neighbor Shoutout Day.
Neighbors are encouraged to go to social media and spotlight neighbor-led projects that make Peoria more vibrant and welcoming. Use the hashtag to share your own appreciation posts.
