SAN JOSE, Ill. – An animal is the cause of a power outage in a Mason County town.
Ameren says around 300 customers lost power in San Jose after a raccoon made contact with equipment inside a substation on Illinois Route 136.
Crews are currently working on repairs, and are hopeful to be done by 6:00 P.M.
Ameren says a critter guard is in place at the substation, but the raccoon managed to maneuver around before making contact with energized equipment inside it.
The raccoon did not survive.
