PEORIA, Ill. – Travelers filling up their cars in the Peoria-area have been paying a little bit more in the past week.
GasBuddy’s weekly report of fuel prices shows a $3.68/g average in Peoria. That’s up 10.8 cents in the past week and up 3.6 cents from one month ago. But it’s 90.7 cents cheaper than this time last year.
The cheapest price in Peoria was $3.38/g while the most expensive was $3.89/g.
AAA is reporting similar numbers over the past week. They have the average for unleaded in the Peoria-Pekin metro at $3.69/g. That’s 9.7 cents higher than last week, 1.9 cents higher than one month ago, but 99.2 cents cheaper than this time last year.
Both GasBuddy and AAA are reporting a downward trend in the average in Illinois. GasBuddy says the state average is $3.80/g, down 1.8 cents from last week. AAA has their average at $3.83/g, down one cent from the week prior.
GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, Patrick De Haan says it’s a quieter than normal summer for gas prices across the country, but that could change.
“However, with tremendous heat gripping much of the country, I remain concerned about the fuel that such high temperatures will provide for tropical systems that venture into the Atlantic and Caribbean,” De Haan said. “For now, I don’t expect much change in the toss up that has been gas prices for weeks on end. But, with gasoline demand now hitting its summer high, there remain some risks that could disturb gas prices in a significant way before summer’s end.”
