PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria City Council is giving its blessing to an expansion of Friendship House.
The council this week approved the expansion as a special use, in Council Member Tim Riggenbach’s newly-redrawn Third District.
“This is a classic example of their simple project of expanding the kitchen, adding the drive-thru, kind of took on a life of its own, here,” said Riggenbach.
Riggenbach says that’s because of requirements for landscaping, fencing, a new dumpster enclosure, and other things, involving several other addresses around parts of Madison and Jefferson.
“A couple of things I think were particularly concerning to me specifically after some of the things we’ve dealt with in other parts of town — the sidewalks and landscaping and whatnot — is what waiver they were requesting around the parking lot at Madison and Wayne Street,” said Riggenbach.
And, Riggenbach says, times where, with other projects, the city council said something would eventually need to be revisited, and didn’t.
But, he says that’s all been worked out.
