PEORIA, Ill. – As the snow falls in earnest in Peoria and around the area Saturday, an official with Peoria’s Public Works Department says he’d appreciate if you watch where you’re going.
Deputy Director of Operations Sie Maroon says as you drive the city’s roads Saturday, watch for those snow plows.
“We just want people to give them the opportunity to get the work done,” said Maroon. “Get the citizen and get the travellers where they need to go. So we just need a little bit of space, and a little bit of patience, and everything will be good.”
Maroon says if you’re behind a snow plow, just slow down and back off them, mainly because you probably don’t know where the plow will go next, or if they’ll need to slow down.
“If they can’t (move to another lane of traffic), just back way off, because you don’t know what that truck is going to do next,” said Maroon. “It may be making a turn, it may be staying straight, it may be slipping into a turn lane, and that it will come right back out on the main driving lane.”
Maroon says otherwise, that’s what he calls a “recipe for an accident.”
He says his crews will be working around the clock, as Saturday’s snow isn’t expected to let up until early Sunday morning.
By the way, Maroon says despite popular belief, there is no main priority given to what side streets will be plowed first. He says it’s simply the 17 main routes, followed by side streets.
