PEORIA, Ill – The Illinois Department of Transportation has scheduled another demolition event at the former eastbound span of the McClugage Bridge.
The demolition event will take place, weather permitting, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Monday.
It is the sixth of eight scheduled demolition events and the first since May 16. This event will demolish three piers toward the East Peoria side of the bridge.
The McClugage Bridge and roads leading to the bridge will close 30 minutes before the blast and reopen as soon as possible after conditions are deemed safe. That includes both directions of U.S. Route 150 between Route 29 (Adams Street in Peoria) and Route 116 in East Peoria.
Traffic will be routed off U.S. 150 at the interchange ramps and no stopping will be allowed. Route 29 (Adams Street in Peoria) will remain open in both directions.
IDOT says a security perimeter will be in place on land and on the river, keeping spectators at a safe distance.
Officials also say they will be using drones to monitor safety surrounding the demolition event. Civilian drones are required to stay at least 1,000 feet north of the bridge and at least 300 feet above ground.
Any drone violating the zone could postpone the demolition and the pilot could be found liable for the delay.
