NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. – The run for a Dunlap Valley Middle School student at the Scripps’ National Spelling Bee has come to a close.
Kavin Kumar Suriya Prakash of Edwards was eliminated Wednesday morning during the quarterfinals.
He misspelled “funis,” a Latin word for cord or rope, in the competition’s sixth round.
Earlier in the day, Prakash correctly spelled “bluestocking” in the fourth round, and correctly defined “omnipotent,” a person with virtually unlimited power, in the fifth round.
For reaching the quarterfinals, Prakash receives a commemorative pin and a $100 gift card.
