PEORIA, Ill. – Renovations to the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza get underway on Tuesday, a project that will cost $6.76 million to complete.
Construction around the courthouse will mean some changes for drivers and pedestrians, as well as fewer parking spaces.
Metered parking around the courthouse will be bagged and unavailable, Peoria County officials say, though several unmetered handicap spaces on Main, Hamilton, and Jefferson will be available during the construction.
Fencing around the Courthouse Plaza will go up Tuesday morning, and the public will not have access to the WWI and WWII Memorials or the Final Salute Memorial while work is being done.
The courthouse entrance on NE Jefferson will remain open. Renovations to the Courthouse Plaza will include two new fountains, a new irrigation system, new LED lighting, vehicle protection bollards, benches, picnic tables, and new landscaping.
