MONMOUTH, Ill. – A doctor with OSF Healthcare has died in a two-vehicle crash in Warren County.
Illinois State Police says the crash occurred on northbound U.S. Route 67 at 185th Avenue at around 2:30 P.M. Thursday, where a passenger car and a tractor-trailer collided. No other details of the crash have been released at this time.
ISP says northbound traffic was rerouted to 180th St. as the investigation was underway, with the road reopened just after 8:45 P.M.
Warren County Coroner Al McGuire says Dr. Syed Imam, 44, of Peoria was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash about 20 minutes later.
He says an autopsy is completed, but a cause of death will not be released until toxicology testing is done.
In a statement, OSF says Imam worked in Galesburg and Monmouth, and was a “dedicated physician.”
“We are deeply saddened to confirm that Dr. Syed Imam, a valued member of the medical staff at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg and OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, has died following an accident. Dr. Imam was a dedicated physician with Renal Care Associates who provided exceptional care to his patients and was beloved by his colleagues,” OSF said in the statement.
OSF says Imam leaves behind a wife and three children.
