PEORIA, Ill. – Arson is being cited as the cause of a fire that destroyed a vacant house in Peoria’s East Bluff.
Peoria Fire crews were called to the area of Ravine and Indiana just after 2:30 P.M. Monday, finding heavy smoke and flames from the front and sides of the three-story house.
The fire was initially put out from the house’s exterior, as the house was boarded up and hard to access.
Entry was eventually gained in the front and rear with crews, eventually entering on the second floor and encountering heavy fire and smoke. The bulk of the fire was put out in 20 minutes.
There were no injuries.
An investigator and arson dog Molly were called to the scene, and ruled the fire to be arson. The fire remains under investigation.
The house was deemed a total loss, with damage estimated at $50,000.
