PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria’s Mayor is seeking a second term in office.
Rita Ali announced her intention to run for re-election next year.
She was first elected in 2021 after being the Vice President of Workforce and Diversity at Illinois Central College.
Ali was also an at-large Councilwoman from 2019 until being elected Mayor.
“We’ve done a lot of good things over the past 3+ years and there’s still much more to do. My work is not done so I am requesting four more years to complete my assignment,” Ali said in a statement announcing her re-election bid.
Ali also says there is “no need to change course” at this time, and to continue with the “stability, accountability, and collaboration” done under the past three years of her leadership.
In her State of the City address last month, Ali looked to the future with a focus on the newly adopted five-year strategic plan for Peoria.
It focuses on quality of life, safety, developing the downtown area, business growth, and public infrastructure.
On the Mayor’s Office site, Ali also mentions her role in leading a bipartisan effort to bring passenger rail service to the Peoria area.
