COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois Commerce Commission is giving the green light to Ameren for a project that is supposed to improve electric reliability in the Peoria area.
Ameren says the ICC has approved a new 138 kilovolt transmission line connecting the utility’s Alta and Pioneer Park substations, called the “Peoria County Reliability Project.”
The utility says it will reduce both the frequency and duration of power outages in this area.
“The approval of the Peoria County Reliability Project is a significant milestone toward improving energy reliability for the area,” said Stephanie Thomson, project manager of the Peoria County Reliability Project, in an Ameren-issued news release. “In addition to opening up new pathways to bring more energy to the region, we’re keeping the construction jobs here at home and providing an economic boost to downstate Illinois.”
Construction will begin next spring and should be complete by the end of 2025.
Ameren says union electricians from Illinois will do the work.
