PEORIA, Ill. – The family of a teenager killed during an accident in Bartonville last year is now suing the driver, and a liquor store accused of illegally selling alcohol indirectly to the driver.
25 News cites a news release from the office of personal injury attorney Jeff Green as suing Clayton Bell, 18, and Express Liquors in Peoria.
Bell was behind the wheel of a car on Pfeiffer Road in Bartonville in February of last year when, eyewitnesses say, he was trying to “catch air,” but instead crashed, killing Mia Dusek, 15.
Bell is serving a fourteen-year prison sentence after being convicted of counts of Reckless Homicide and Aggravated Driving Under the Influence.
The suit reportedly claims Express Liquors sold alcohol repeatedly to a minor prior to the crash, who then gave the drinks to Bell.
It’s not clear what sort of relief is being sought.
