PEORIA, Ill. – One of five people arrested on federal drug charges last year will be spending the next several decades in prison.
A federal judge in Peoria Monday sentenced Juan Bernal, 54, to 252 months in prison – or, 21 years – after pleading guilty in January to a charge of Conspiracy to Distribute, and Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute.
Bernal and four others – including two from Peoria – were arrested in May of last year for distributing meth in Peoria, Tazewell, and Logan Counties, among other places.
Bernal could have been sentenced to prison for life on the charge.
Two of the other four have also pleaded guilty and await sentencing, while one has already been sentenced to federal prison. According to federal court records, Maria Guadalupe Flores-Cano, 41, has pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing, as does Juan Carlos Figueroa-Ramirez, 44.
Edgar Daniel Perez-Hernandez, 23, is serving a four year prison sentence for his role. And, Edgar J. Tello, 32, is scheduled for trial in October.
