BRIMFIELD, Ill. – The sunflowers are in bloom near Jubilee State Park.
Site Superintendent Stuart Whitaker says the flowers bloomed earlier this month. But says there’s not much time left to see them before they wilt.
“This’ll be probably the last good week of pictures. There’s still a few, because they will bloom kind of in stages. So there’s still a couple that are looking really good right now. And also as they mature, they’ll start wilting and things like that,” Whitaker said.
Whitaker says once the flowers have fully wilted, the seeds and petals will become food for wildlife in the park area.
The blooming sunflowers are an attraction each year, with many people stopping on the side of the road they are on to take pictures and observe them. Whitaker says if you do that, then you need to be careful.
“It’s pretty chaotic over there. And the road’s basically maybe a two-lane road, a lane-and-a-half at best, when you get cars on both sides of the road. It becomes kind of problematic,” Whitaker said.
The sunflowers are located in fields off of Thousand Dollar Road, about two miles from the entrance of the park.
