CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – There wasn’t much change in drought conditions in the Peoria-area within the past week.
The latest U.S Drought Monitor report released Thursday shows that all of Peoria and Woodford Counties are still at a moderate drought level. Nearly all of Tazewell County is at a moderate level as well, apart from 0.1% in the southwestern portion of the county at a severe level.
Drought conditions across Illinois are improving as well. Around 13% of the state is at a severe level of drought, mainly along the northern and southern state lines and the west-central portion. That’s down from about 34% last week.
Moderate drought conditions are being seen in about 66% of Illinois, down from around 83% from the week prior.
The only portions of Illinois seeing extreme drought conditions are Adams and Pike Counties along the Mississippi River.
Conditions could worsen over the next week, with forecasters predicting hot and dry weather in the next ten days.
