UPDATED 5:19 P.M.
PEORIA, Ill. – A shooting in Peoria Thursday night led to the city’s 11th homicide of the year.
Peoria Police say they were contacted by a local hospital at around 6:15 P.M. that two gunshot victims arrived by private vehicle.
Officers then identified a crime scene in the area of Madison and Spring Streets, where they also located a vehicle with bullet strikes.
A Shot Spotter alert didn’t go off in the area.
Police collected evidence at the scene.
An investigation revealed that the suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Ronnie L. Simmons, argued with the victim. He then reportedly left and then returned with a gun and shot the victim and a second person.
Officers also recovered a gun.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says 25-year-old Demetrious Davis’ condition rapidly deteriorated, and he was later pronounced dead a half hour after arriving at a hospital. An autopsy, Harwood said, determined the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.
A 26-year-old suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Simmons was arrested for First Degree Murder and taken to the Peoria County Jail.
