PEORIA, Ill. — The current contract between Caterpillar Inc. and the United Auto Workers Union expires at midnight Tuesday.
Union members at Peoria area Caterpillar plants gave leaders the authority to call a strike against the company at the end of January, in the event an agreement between CAT and the UAW could not be reached.
Contract talks have not produced an agreement yet, and Caterpillar has said it will continue operating and serving customers during any potential strike.
“It makes good business sense to plan for any scenario – including a work stoppage or strike – that may impact operations and our customer commitments. This is a normal part of our process before any negotiation,” Caterpillar said in January.
