WEST DES MOINES, Ia. – There’s one less benefit to being an employee of a grocery store chain with locations in Peoria — at least for the time being.
West Des Moines, Iowa-based Hy-Vee says they are suspending their employee discount program, until summer or later, following an investigation and revamping.
A video sent to employees and obtained by WMBD indicates there have been recent incidents of abuse in the program. An executive in the video claims one employee’s discount was used in five different states in a one hour period. And, in another instance, an employee was allegedly buying large quantities of merchandise and re-selling the items at a profit.
Employees got ten percent discounts, with periodic 20 percent discounts for special events.
