SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — To help ensure public safety and access to federal funding, State Senator Win Stoller (R-Germantown Hills) has filed a bill to prevent a sweep of Illinois’ 9-1-1 Fund.
“With violent crime on the rise across the state, it is illogical to remove funds from our Statewide 9-1-1 Fund,” Stoller said.
Senate Bill 4212 would stop the $5 million sweep from the 9-1-1 Fund to Illinois’ new 9-8-8 Trust Fund, which was part of the 2023 budget.
Stoller’s bill would instead appropriate $5 million from the General Revenue Fund to the 9-8-8 Trust Fund, which is being established to maintain a suicide prevention and mental health crisis system through the Department of Human Services.
“Currently, our state has enough money in the General Revenue Fund to ensure that we are able to fund both of these vitally important operations,” Stoller said. “Like many Illinoisans, public safety is at the forefront of my mind, and since we have the money to prevent a sweep of funds that could jeopardize public safety, we should and must act now.”
Stoller said the Fund sweep is not set to take place until sometime in the new fiscal year after July 1, 2022. The Comptroller does not have to order the transfer immediately.
