WOODFORD COUNTY, Ill. – There may not be an active search, but police are hopeful someone might have seen a man who escaped from a transport van in Woodford County late Wednesday.
Javier Aguirre, 47, of Hoopeston busted out the window of a van and escaped, while being transported from one hospital to the other.
The break-out happened Wednesday night while stopped on Interstate 39 in Woodford County.
“We’re trying to determine if he left the area, how did he leave the area,” said Woodford County Sheriff Dennis Tipsword, talking with 25 News. “One potential way would be if he was able to find a vehicle with the keys left in it, and was able to drive away.”
Aguirre — who authorities say was not in custody at the time — is now wanted for Criminal Damage to Property.
“He attempted to escape from a moving vehicle going down the interstate, so we don’t know why or how desperate he may be,” said Tipsword. “So that’s not something that a normal person would try to do,”
He has a prior criminal record, including charges of Criminal Exploitation of a Minor in Vermillion County.
Aguirre is considered dangerous, and was wearing hospital scrubs at the time of his escape.
If you see him, you’re asked to call police or 911 immediately.
Illinois State Police say they’re now working with local law enforcement to distribute “Missing Endangered” flyers with Aguirre on them.
