PEORIA, Ill. — With COVID-19 cases dropping significantly, local hospitals have experienced a definite shift.
Dr. Keith Knepp, President and CEO of UnityPoint Health-Central Illinois, confirms area hospitals are getting back to procedures put off during the height of the pandemic.
“We’re in such a better place around COVID right now, we’re down to single digits in our three hospitals for the number of COVID patients hospitalized, and it’s just a breath of fresh air to be in that place,” Knepp said.
UnityPoint’s hospitals are experiencing pent up demand and the medical staff haven’t had much of a reprieve.
“Unfortunately, there are people who are now experiencing health challenges because of delay in care, delay in preventive screening. It’s not necessarily their fault, it’s just the world we’ve been living in,” Knepp said.
The number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized at UnityPoint is currently in the single digits.
Knepp told WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show,” so far, the B-A 2 variant has not caused any surge in cases locally.
