DIXON, Ill. – A member of the Illinois House Republican leadership team is setting his sights on a statewide office.
State Representative Tom Demmer of the Dixon area is using social media to make his campaign for Illinois Treasurer official, and is already going on attack against the incumbent.
“Take it from me. You may not have heard of Mike Frerichs, but he stands tall among the tax-and-spend Springfield crowd,” said Demmer, in a social media video.
Demmer accuses Frerichs of constantly voting to raise taxes during his time in the legislature, and claims Frerichs wants to tax retirement income.
“Throughout his fifteen years as a Springfield politician, Mike Frerichs continually voted to raise your taxes,” said Demmer. “And now, he even wants to tax your retirement.”
Frerichs reportedly said two years ago a so-called “fair” income tax meant the door would be open to taxing retirement income, but then later said he would oppose such a tax.
Frerichs, a former State Senator, has been elected twice as treasurer. So far, no other candidates have announced a run.
