SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Heading to the store? Make sure you bring your mask.
Illinois’ new indoor mask mandate is now in effect, and includes stores, restaurants, bars, gyms and any other indoor public spaces.
The mandate was announced last week, with Illinois Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike saying, masks work.
“The bottom line is masks are effective, vaccines are effective. But, until more people are vaccinated, we need to take the steps to protect our healthcare workers, protect our hospital resources, and our most vulnerable,” Ezike said.
Gov. J-B Pritzker said last Friday, masking is needed to help prevent further spread of the COVID-19 virus, which is again straining hospital resources.
“Until we alleviate the pressure on hospitals, we’re going to have to put the pressure on people to wear the masks in indoor locations,” Pritzker said.
The governor urges those you haven’t been vaccinated to do so now, and help reduce the risk for everyone.
