CHICAGO — Gov. J.B. Pritzker gave his daily COVID-19 news briefing Sunday and announced good news and bad news.
First, the bad news: the state’s total case count has reached 4,596, including 65 deaths in 47 counties.
The good news: the amount of tests per day has reached 4,000 people, doubling the 2,000 per day from when the daily briefings began.
Pritzker said 28,000 tests, in total, have been run.
But, that’s not all — Pritzker said he expects the state to soon have the capability to run 10,000 tests to be conducted per day.
He said there are now two state drive-thru testing facilities; a new one in McLean County has joined an existing one in Harwood Heights in Cook County.
Pritzker said he’s heard of stories in other states of landlords evicting nurses from apartments, and if he hears of similar stories occurring in Illinois, the state has attorneys ready to step in.
“Let me be very clear. That will not be tolerated in our state,” he said.
“Evictions are prohibited during this crisis.”
