Simon & Garfunkel Vinyl Box Set, CD/DVD Reissue of “The Concert in Central Park” Due Out in August

PRNewsFoto/Legacy RecordingsA pair of special archival Simon & Garfunkel releases will be hitting stores August 7. The first is a six-disc vinyl box set titled The Complete Columbia Albums Collection, while the second is a reissue of the folk-rock duo’s long-out-of-print 1982 live album and video, Simon & Garfunkel: The Concert in Central Park.

The Complete Columbia Albums Collection features remastered, 180-gram vinyl versions of Simon & Garfunkel’s five studio albums — 1964’s Wednesday Morning, 3.A.M., 1966’s Sounds of Silence and Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme, 1968’s Bookends, and 1970’s Bridge over Troubled Water — as well as their hugely successful 1972 Greatest Hits record. Each of the albums comes housed in sleeve replicating the original artwork, while the anthology also comes packaged with a 20-page booklet and a poster featuring a photo of Simon & Garfunkel.

The Concert in Central Park will be released for the first time ever on DVD as part of a CD/DVD set, while a 180-gram vinyl version also will be made available for purchase. The album and video capture the duo’s historic free reunion concert in New York City’s Central Park that took place September 19, 1981. The show, which featured Simon & Garfunkel performing many of their classic songs as well as a few selections from Paul Simon‘s solo career, originally aired on HBO. The album was first released in February 1982.

By the way, the film version of The Concert in Central Park is slated to air on PBS during the network’s August pledge drive — check local listings for air dates in your area.
