“I Guess Styx Doesn’t Stink…”

Styx, formed in Chicago, began as “The Tradewinds”.  Turns out another band had that name so they changed to “TW4”.  They then changed to “Styx” after they got a record deal. Did they choose Styx (the mystical river of the underworld) because of their collective love of mythology?  Not hardly, says Tommy Shaw, it was simply the only name out of the hundreds they went through that they didn’t all hate…
